Not all Wi-Fi is safe to join, especially ones with no password.
Wi-Fi: Protected or not?
We all use Wi-Fi nearly every single day, whether for business or personal use. But you can't just join any old Wi-Fi without risking your online privacy. Open Wi-Fi networks like ones you find in Cafes or restuarants are often unsecured, which can open the door for malicious intent.
These open Wi-Fi networks provide your internet usage no security, and all it takes is for an individual connected to the same network, to run a malicious program in order to hijack your browsing. Even worse, hackers could even imitate the open Wi-Fi network of an establishment, with a huge range of possibilities on collecting your data, information and any digital footprint you leave behind whilst using that Wi-Fi.
That means a hacker could obtain your passwords if you use them or even your bank details if you make payments whilst connected. If you ever use open, unsecured Wi-Fi networks, never use your important login details and never type your payment details to stay safe.
